Jakarta (Kemenag) --- The Directorate of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) of the Ministry of Religion in collaboration with PTIQ University in the Completion of the Al-Qur'an (TBQ) at school. The kick off program was carried out by Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar in Jakarta, Tuesday (5/27/2025).
The TBQ program in schools is one of the leading programs of the PAI Directorate. The goal is to improve the basic ability of reading the Qur'an of Muslim students in public schools at all levels of kindergarten, elementary, junior high, high school and SLB. This program follows up the findings of the Survey of the Directorate General of Islamic Community Guidance in the Ministry of Religion in 2023 which states that the ability to read the Qur'an of Muslims in accordance with the law of recitation is only 42.44%,
The findings of this survey reinforce the research of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Al-Qur'an Institute (IIQ) in 2023 which states that the population of Indonesia who cannot read the Qur'an is in the range of 53.57%-65%. This has an impact on the ability to read the Qur'an of Muslim students in schools, which still needs to be improved.
The TBQ program in this school will begin with the National Assessment of PAI Teachers. This assessment aims to find out the ability to read the Qur'an of PAI Teachers in Indonesia, totaling 252,069 people. Because, they are the ones who will later become the vanguard for the implementation of TBQ in schools. Those who will teach reading the Qur'an for all Muslim students in schools of more than 45 million.
This assessment is the initial stage of the TBQ program series. The results of this assessment become important data for the Directorate of PAI and PTIQ University to map the ability of PAI teachers in reading the Qur'an and as a basis for implementing education and training for teachers and Muslim students in schools.
"I feel happy and proud of the Ministry of Religion through the Directorate of PAI Directorate General. Pendis has started a very important program for the mastery of the basic absence of Muslim religion, namely reading the Qur'an. This is a finger whose reward will continue to flow for all who are involved in the success of the Qur'an Completion Program in this school," said the Minister of Religion.
"Al-Qur'an is a source of teachings and guidelines for the life of Muslims. Studying it is an inseparable part in shaping the quality of life of Muslims. Muslim students must be introduced early on and brought closer to the values of the Qur'an, so that later students in addition to becoming a scientist, also have a noble character as a provision in their lives," he continued.
The Director General of Islamic Education, Amien Suyitno, added that the Kick Off of the TBQ program in this school was marked and begins with the TBQ assessment activities for Teachers and Supervisors of PAI Special Regions in Jakarta.
"5,281 Teachers and PAI Supervisors All levels of kindergarten, elementary, junior high, high school and SLB of the Jakarta Special Provincial Province are piloting assessments, which are held on May 27, 2025 hybrid. 100 Teachers and PAI Supervisors of the Jakarta Special Region Province will take the Assessment face to face (offline) at the Jakarta Religious Training Center.
Participants from the teacher and PAI supervisors were asked to read several verses of the Qur'an. The assessor will judge in terms of makhorijul letters, shifatul letters and ahkamul mad wal qashr. This assessment uses a website -based application with the name "Cintaqu" which is short for the word "Cinta Tartil Qur'an". This website is arranged so that as much as possible cheating (cheating) as much as possible. Therefore, in this assessment application there is a video feature to show the participant's face.
"Participants must show their faces through a video camera on the device used, so that the assessor can see the face to be matched with photos on the participant's biodata in the Religious Teacher Administration System (Alert) managed by the PAI Directorate. In this assessment the assessor can hear the sound and see the movements of the participants when reading the Qur'an," added Suyitno.
The Director of Islamic Religious Education, M. Munir, said that this assessment activity was carried out and was monitored directly by an expert team (expert) from PTIQ University in Jakarta, the majority of which they were the National Judges of the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur'an (MTQ).
"We will respond to PAI teachers and supervisors throughout Indonesia. Jakarta Special Region Provinces become piloting," said Munir.
"To guarantee quality, in this assessment the Directorate of PAI involved 100 assessors from PTIQ University in Jakarta. Today, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the Jakarta Special Region Province became the initial assessment before all PAI teachers and supervisors. Today's assessment starts at 13:00 WIB until 18:00 WIB," he concluded.
